Here Are 6 Reasons Why It’s Actually Great To Work In A 9-5 Job
The idea of holding down a 9-5 job and developing your career over a period of time almost seems strange in today’s fast-paced gig economy. But actually, there are so many benefits to doing just that.
1. Steady Pay
The peace that comes with having a steady paycheque is not to be overlooked. Knowing there is a steady income coming in every month allows you to make financial plans further into the future and helps reduce stress over your financial situation. However, If you are not being paid what you should be, please get in touch here, and I would love to assist you in getting you where you want to be.
2. More Structure
There is a lot of comfort in being in a structured environment, with clear policies and procedures already laid out. This can help you feel safe because you know what’s expected of you. Your employer will clearly lay out your working hours, so you will know when you have time to take breaks, go to lunch and so on. Depending on your personality, a structured environment might make it easier for you to meet deadlines and stay on top of your work.
3. More Social
In many jobs, especially customer-facing ones, you will be required to talk to other people during your working day. This can give you the chance to make friends and develop social skills such as teamwork or customer service skills.
When working in an office, you can benefit from having teammates to help carry your workload and socialise with. I do miss the office banter to help pass the day. When the team was right, we had a lot of fun, and I made some good friends.
4. Skills Development
Working in a 9-5 job gives you an opportunity to learn skills and get paid for it. The great thing is that the skills you learn will stay with you for life.
If you want to become better at what you do, then this is the ideal way to do it. As you learn new skills you have a better chance to move up the ladder or when the time is right venture out on your own.
5. Networking
Within the job role, you’re often required to attend events and network. Work events are a great way for you to network and meet new people who might help you make your future plans become reality.
6. Work-Life Balance
Working in a 9-5 job means that you will have time to enjoy life outside of work. If you are working on your own schedule, it can be very difficult to achieve this balance as many freelancers don’t get paid for holidays or weekends. However, working in an office allows you the freedom to leave at 5 pm and relax or spend time with your family without worrying about where your next project is coming from.

Here are 4 Disadvantages Of Having A 9-5 Job
1. You Can’t Choose Who You Work With
So much of the stress people face at work may have less to do with the work itself but more to do with workplace politics. Work can feel fun and refreshing in the right team and office environment. But in the wrong team and environment, dealing with office politics can be traumatising.
2. You Have to Ask for Permission
And then there’s the frustrating feeling of having to ask for things like time off, work from home, and innovation within your role. There’s something about having to ask for the things you need that can leave a bad taste in your mouth. Having someone else make decisions about every aspect of your work can feel demoralising. And don’t get me started about having to attend unnecessary team meetings. Or sit through useless supervisions so a manager can tick it off their to-do list (eye roll).
3. Your Employer Does Not Value All Your Excellent Skills
The disadvantage of a job is that you may not always be able to do the work or use the skills you want to use. You might be assigned tasks that bore or frustrate you or that you don’t feel confident doing. You may be told what to do instead of being given the freedom to choose how to handle things.

4. Your Employer Can Stifle Your Creativity
Finally, it can be challenging to have an entrepreneurial spirit in a job environment, especially if your company’s culture tends toward structured and bureaucratic thinking. Some people thrive in such settings; others find it stifling.

Have You Considered Changing Your Career or Job Instead of Freelancing?
The key to finding success through a traditional career is finding a job that is aligned with your values. A job that pays well, allows you to contribute and add value, and lets you live how you want to live. If we could all find a job that did that, most of us would feel content. But the problem is that many of us do not know what we want to do. We spend too much time doing jobs that are not aligned and do not fulfil us in the first place. This makes working 9-5 a real struggle. If you struggle to find a job that aligns with who you are and pays what you deserve, check out my job hunting bundle for more information.
How to Find Out if the Job Itself Is the Problem
The best way to find a job aligned with your skills, values, and lifestyle is to create a personal manifesto. What is a personal manifesto? A personal manifesto expresses your values, beliefs and guiding principles. It’s something you can refer to when you’re looking for a job or starting a business. Clearly defining these things for yourself makes it easier to identify what you truly want in life.
Summary
There are lots of factors that play into what makes a career choice good or bad, and in the end, of course, it’s a personal decision. Everyone is different, and what works for one may not work for the other. People’s life situations change throughout their lives, which is why many people end up working for themselves and others at different times in their careers. Ultimately, the best employment situation is one where you feel challenged and appreciated while also maintaining a balance of life outside of work. Whether that balance includes 9-5 work hours or something else entirely is entirely up to you.
